Why Topics That Are Boring Or Uninteresting As An Essay Topic Work As An Essay Topic

Why Topics That Are Boring Or Uninteresting As An Essay Topic Work As An Essay TopicWhy mundane topics work as an essay topic? What is it about mundane topics that makes them so easy to talk about and write about? These are questions I get asked quite a bit when I am talking to people who want to learn how to write an essay. The first thing you need to know about the 'why' of a topic for an essay is that writing about something you have no personal experience with is a recipe for failure. It's like trying to figure out what color a photograph is before looking at it. There is only one way to find out what colors a photograph is and that is to look at it.The second thing you need to know about why mundane topics work as an essay topic is that you need to be able to rely on your personal experience. That doesn't mean you can't bring in other sources, but you need to use that as the central source. It doesn't make sense to use other experiences to back up your own. If you are going to us e other experiences then you should be able to at least acknowledge that there is another experience in your life. The third thing you need to know about why topics that are just plain uninteresting work as an essay topic is that they are almost always easy to talk about. For most people they can say things like, 'That's something I don't like or something I'm not very good at,' without the words 'messing'boring' coming out of their mouths. This ability to talk about things in your own life comes from experience. It's much easier to talk about your life and experiences than it is to talk about other people's lives and experiences. Finally, the fourth thing you need to know about why topics that are boring or uninteresting as an essay topic is that they are also very easy to write about. When you don't have any experience with the topic, you can often build an entire essay around those central details without ever having to think too much about the big picture.Essays are almost always w ritten by people who have some experience with the topic at hand. Not every person who writes essays has a background in English, but it can often be a different story. We tend to do better when we are encouraged to write about things we're familiar with.Writing essays isn't just a matter of getting together a list of facts and sticking them in the wrong order. It is a matter of learning how to talk about topics in a way that gives you more freedom to think. Now you know why mundane topics work as an essay topic.
